Skylar graduated from UBC’s Master of Physical Therapy – North in the fall of 2022. Her journey through the program was unique as the majority of her training occurred in Northern and Rural regions of British Columbia. She has also completed the Diploma of Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy Level 1. Prior to her Masters, Skylar completed her Bachelor of Human Kinetics at UBC-Okanagan. Skylar highly values decolonizing health care and providing culturally safe care – she strives to practice the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action #18-24 in the Sun City Clinic when pertinent.
Skylar moved to Kelowna in 2014 from Ottawa, Ontario. During her time in Kelowna, Skylar has been an avid volunteer, especially in the sport sector. Skylar has been involved in the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council of BC, KidSport Kelowna and PacificSport Okanagan since 2015, as well as an athletics coach with the Okanagan Athletics Club since 2014. Her experience in the local sport community has contributed to her philosophy of being active for life, which further influences her therapy delivery. Skylar is keen to encourage holistic rehabilitation through strong interprofessional communication, evidence based practice, along with exercise prescription, manual therapy and orthopaedic approaches to injuries. Her goal lies in supporting her client’s return to baseline activity, or help in learning to navigate a new baseline.
In her free time, Skylar enjoys listening to true crime podcasts, cycling, hiking, camping, and chasing sunsets on the beautiful Syilx territory. Since moving back to Kelowna after her degree, she has set goals to experience the beautiful land through physical activity – Kelowna really is an all seasons playground!
